Survey Finds More People May Be Seeking Smaller Homes

Blame it on the economy? 48% in a recent survey by stated that their ideal home size would be 1,000 to 1,999 sf. Five years ago, 2,400 sf was the average home size according to the NAHB (National Association of Homebuilders). Could a trend towards downsizing actually spur sales for smaller homes and condos? With credit tight, and short sales and reos on the rise, a trend toward purchasing smaller homes would be a welcome relief for the battered housing sector.
